Hunua Ranges Regional Park comprises of 14,000 hectares of native forest, making it Auckland's largest forested terrain.

The park features the Hunua Falls, a popular natural attraction and much photographed waterfall, which is located at the end of Falls Road, a turn off just before Hunua Village.

The Hunua Ranges is also home to an enormous variety of plants, animals and birds including one of the rarest birds, the kokako and the Hochsetter, one the world's most unusual frogs which makes no noise and does not have webbed feet.

The park is an hour's drive south-east of Auckland city off State Highway 1. The two main accessible areas for visitors are the Hunua Falls and Waiora Reservoir, and the ranges area around Mangatangi and Mangatawhirl reservoirs.

Walking Tracks:

The park has a number of walking and mountain biking trails in which to explore the park. 

Hunua Falls Lookout Walk. 20 mins. This short track follows the Wairoa River through lush forest and upto a lookout platform, offering an unspoilt view of the impressive water feature.

Hunua Falls Upper Lookout Walk. 30 mins /  0.8 km. This steeper walk is a good way to see the popular Hunua Falls from above and enjoy the surrounding forest. 

Cossey - Massey Loop Walk. 3 hours /  8.3 km. The three hour combined Cossey Gorge and Massey track is one of the more popular walks, leading across the Cossey Creek, through stunning native forest, past waterfalls and giant kauri trees.

Suspension Bridge Loop Walk. 1.5 hours. A loop walk which takes visitors up a steep climb and descent through native forest and past the Waiora Dam.
